Tatakoto (also Takoto, old name: Clerke Island ) is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia . It is comparatively isolated in the eastern part of the archipelago, 1,182 km northeast of Tahiti and 170 km northwest of Pukarua .

Tatakoto is also a municipality that does not include any other islands. The municipality's INSEE code is 98737. The zip code is 98783.

The atoll has an east-west elongated shape, with a length of 14 km and a maximum width of 3.5 km. The land area is 7.3 km². The north side consists of a large, wooded motu . The south side consists of 65 small motus (islands on the reef rim) and hoas (passages). There is no deep passage to the 20 km² inner lagoon .

The atoll had a population of 227 at the 2007 census. The village of Tumukuru is at the western end of the atoll, where there is also a small airfield ( IATA airport code TKV). At the beginning of the 20th century, the French Albert Javelot had coconut palms planted, which now cover the entire atoll. The most important economic activity is copra extraction .

Tatakoto was discovered in 1774 by Spanish sailors Domingo de Boenechea and José de Andía y Varela . They landed on the feast of Saint Narcissus. This is why the atoll was previously also called "San Narciso", "Narcisse" and "Augier".
