Tahaa (municipality)

Tahaa is a municipality in the Society Islands in French Polynesia . It includes the island of Tahaa , 230 km west of Tahiti , north of the island of Raiatea , with which it shares a lagoon . Two volcanoes , Mont Ohiri (590 m) and Mont Puurauti (550 m), were previously active. The following bays surround Tahaa:

  • Bay of Hurepiti
  • Baie d'Apu
  • Baie de Haamene
  • Baie de Fahaa

The municipality mark covers 88 km². It has 5,003 inhabitants and is made up of the following sub-municipalities (population figures as of 2007):

  • Hipu, 420 Ew.
  • Faaaha, 452 Ew.
  • Haamene, 927 Ew.
  • Vaitoare, 402 Ew.
  • Niua, 513 Ew.
  • Ruutia, 518 Ew.
