Taiarapu-Est is a municipality on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia . It consists of the sub-municipalities ( communes associées }}) Afaahiti-Taravao as the main town (Chef-lieu), Faaone, Pueu and Tautira. The uninhabited volcanic island of Mehetia, 110 km east of Tahiti, also belongs to the latter . They cover a total area of ​​216 km². The Isthmus of Taravao, which connects the two peninsulas Tahiti Nui ("Greater Tahiti") and Tahiti Iti ("Little Tahiti"), is located in the area of ​​the Afaahiti-Taravao sub-municipality .
