Arue is a French commune with 10,243 inhabitants (as of August 17, 2017) in the northeast of Tahiti in the overseas territory of French Polynesia . It also includes the Tetiaroa atoll about 40 kilometers away . The municipality mark covers 1,600 hectares. Arue lies at an average altitude of 653 meters above sea ​​level . The highest point is at 1305 meters.

The municipality is assigned to a climate zone of the type Af (according to Köppen and Geiger) : tropical  (A) fully humid  (f), coldest month above 18 ° C. There is an equatorial climate .

The Sacré-Cœur ( Sacred Heart Church ) is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus . It belongs to the Roman Catholic parish Cote Est of the Archdiocese of Papeete .

Henry Nott (1774–1844) was one of the first Protestant missionaries of the British London Missionary Society in Tahiti. He came to Arue in 1797 and became an advisor to King Pomaré II (1782-1821). Every year on March 5th, Arue City Council organizes a memorial service at his grave in Nott's honor.

There are numerous companies from the industrial and commercial sectors in Arue. The Brasserie de Tahiti in Arue bottles a mineral water called Eau Royale .
