Rimatara (municipality)
Rimatara is a municipality in the Austral Islands subdivision of French Polynesia . Its district includes the island of Rimatara with an area of 7.83 km² and the atoll Maria with 1.3 km². It has 8,725 inhabitants (2017 census) and is divided into the following sub-municipalities:
- Amaru (northeast), capital with 289 inhabitants, with the uninhabited atoll Maria over 200 kilometers further west
- Mutuaura with 315 inhabitants (south)
- Anapoto (northwest) with 268 inhabitants
The highest point, Mont Uahu, is 83 m. ü. M.
