Tahaa is an island that belongs to the group of Society Islands in French Polynesia . Together with Huahine , Raiatea and Maupiti, it is geographically one of the " Leeward Islands " in the South Pacific and is located about 230 km northwest of Tahiti . Tahaa is located north of the neighboring island of Raiatea, with which it is enclosed by a common coral reef .
5003 inhabitants live on the 90 km² island (as of August 2007). The larger settlements are Patio, Hipu, Faaaha, Haamene, Vaitoare, Poutoru, Tiva and Tapuamu. The highest point is the Mont Ohiri with a height of 590 m.
