Motu One ( Polynesian also Papa Iti or Temiromiro is called) an atoll in the South Pacific lying Society Islands in French Polynesia and belongs to the municipality of Maupiti . In some sources it is called Bellingshausen , in others Bellinghausen . This name goes back to Otto von Kotzebue , who named the atoll after the Baltic German explorer Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen .

The atoll consists of one larger and five small islands with a total land area of ​​2.3 km², which enclose a central lagoon . It is about 550 km northwest of Tahiti and is now uninhabited.

The island is an important breeding and resting place for various bird species and a place where the green sea turtle ( green turtle ) lays its eggs.
