Anicetas Uogelė (born April 12, 1933 in Žagarė , Joniškis Rajongemeinde , Lithuania ) is a Lithuanian chess player . He won together with Wilfried Sauermann the 14th European Championship in correspondence chess .

As a Black he often used the variant 1. e2 – e4 c7 – c5 2. Ng1 – f3 Nb8 – c6 3. d2 – d4 c5xd4 4. Nf3xd4 g7 – g6 5. Nb1 – c3 Bf8 – g7 6. Bc1 – e3 Ng8– f6 7. Bf1 – c4 0–0 8. Bc4 – b3 a7 – a5 in the accelerated dragon variant , which is therefore named after him.

Uogelė learned to play chess at the age of 11. Between 1961 and 2001 he won the championship of his home town Šiauliai 22 times . He participated in the Lithuanian championship more than 24 times. In 1965 he took first place with Vladas Mikėnas , and in 1980 third place. His rating is 2130 (as of January 2016), and he reached his highest rating of 2300 in January 1990.

Correspondence chess

Uogelė has been playing correspondence chess since 1959. Between 1962 and 1966 he won the Lithuanian championship three times in a row . Because of his victory at the Eberhardt Wilhelm Cup in 1963/70, he received the title of International Correspondence Chess Master in 1970 . With two victories in European tournaments, he qualified for the 14th European Championship. Here he and Wilfried Sauermann reached first place in 1981. Since both had the same fine rating, they were jointly declared European champions.

In the 3/4 final of the 12th World Championship in 1979/83 he finished 5th. At the 5th European Team Championship, he reached 2nd place with the Lithuanian team. In 1999 the ICCF World Association awarded him the title of Honored International Master . At the end of 2005 he had an FS rating of 2471.
