Kauehi , also called Putake , is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia . Administratively, the atoll belongs to the municipality of Fakarava . Kauehi reaches an area of 17 × 23 km. The next atoll, Raraka, is 17 km southeast.
history
The atoll was first mentioned in a document by Robert FitzRoy in 1835 , but the island had already been known for its pearl trade .
The most important place on the island is Tearavero , an airfield was opened in 2001.
