Analysis et traitement informatique de la langue française
Analyze et traitement informatique de la langue française ( ATILF ) is a research unit of the French CNRS and the University of Lorraine in Nancy .
The organization was created in 2001 through the merger of the two institutes Institut National de la Langue Française (INaLF) of the CNRS and Langue Discours Cognition (LANDISCO) of the former University of Nancy 2, which, together with the University of Metz , formed today's University of Lorraine in 2012.
She is involved in the international Text Encoding Initiative and the European research platform Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure .
The ATILF operates the two major projects Trésor de la langue française (TLF) and Dictionnaire du Moyen Français (DMF) . It also brings together other French text and dictionary sources in the Center national de ressources textuelles et lexicales portal . On the basis of a contract with the Académie française, it informatises its dictionary .
Trésor de la langue française
The Trésor de la langue française project began in 1960 when the then university rector Paul Imbs (1908–1987) founded the Research Center Center de recherche pour un Trésor de la langue française (CRTLF) . This began to build an automated dictionary of the modern French language in an early phase of computer science . A large number of written sources were evaluated for this purpose.
The Institut Institut National de la Langue Française published a first version of the Trésor de la langue française in 16 printed volumes from 1971 to 1994 . In 2004 a second edition of the Trésor appeared on CR-ROM.
The electronic dictionary Trésor de la langue française informatisé, developed from it, has been available online since 2002 .
Dictionnaire du Moyen Français
The ATILF institute also researches historical lexicography and Romance, especially Gallo-Roman etymology .
A new ATILF project intends to develop a computerized dictionary comparable to the TLF for Old French as well .
French Etymological Dictionary
In accordance with an agreement with the CNRS, the Swiss National Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research is having the ATILF further develop the French Etymological Dictionary (FEW) created by Walther von Wartburg (1888–1971) in a special project . This corpus contains the older and also modern lexical sources of French, Franco-Provençal , Occitan and Gascon .

The ATILF was headed by Jean-Marie Pierrel from 2001 to 2012 , Eva Buchi from 2013 to 2017 and Alex Boulton from 2018 to 2022 .
The research officers at ATILF also include Vice Directors Michel Musiol , professor at the University of Lorraine, and Yan Greub , specialist in historical linguistics and director of the Glossaire des patois de la Suisse romande .
