Hubert Wurth

Hubert Wurth (born April 15, 1952 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg diplomat and artist .

Wurth completed his Abitur at the Luxembourg Athénée (1964 to 1971), then studied law at the Universities of Aix-Marseille III and Paris II (1971 to 1975), with additional degrees in international relations at the Institute for Political Studies (IEP) in Paris (up to 1976) and Luxembourg law at the Luxembourg Bar (1977). In 1978 Wurth began his foreign service and until 1988 held various positions in the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic missions of the Grand Duchy .

In 1988 Wurth was appointed ambassador to the Soviet Union , with additional accreditation in Poland , Finland and Mongolia and based in Moscow . In 1992 he was transferred to The Hague , as ambassador to the Netherlands , in 1998 to New York as permanent representative to the United Nations , and in 2003 to Paris as ambassador to France and as permanent representative to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO).

In August 2007 he was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom , based in London with additional accreditation in Ireland and Iceland . Since 2011 he has been the diplomatic representative of the Grand Duchy in Vienna , as ambassador to Austria , Slovakia and Slovenia , and as permanent representative to the OSCE , the IAEA , UNIDO and the United Nations Office in Vienna .

Wurth works as a self-taught painter in his spare time. He is married to the Luxembourg politician Lydie Polfer and has two daughters.
