The Electric Church is an international jam band from Cambrai , northern France. A Hungarian and two Germans play a mixture of blues and southern rock .
The band was formed in 2003 as a trio and initially played blues rock . The name is taken from the work of Jimi Hendrix , who said in an interview that his music was not just rock n roll, but should be understood as "electrical sacred music". Since the band initially performed a lot of Hendrix covers, they chose their name from the musician's environment. The first CD, called Instant Absolution, ended the blues-rock phase musically.
In 2006 the trio was increased to a quartet by a further guitarist and developed into a jam band. Long live shows and music rich in improvisation led to joint concerts with many national and international acts. At the end of 2006, the recordings for the second album began, which dragged on into the early summer of 2007. The CD was released in October 2007; Uli Heiser from Rocktimes describes the sound of the album as "between heavy Gov't Mule riffs and bluesy Jeff Healey lead guitars".
Shortly after the album was finished, drummer and founding member Sebastien Carpentier and guitarist Manu Da Silva left the band for personal reasons.
The band is actively touring in France , Belgium , Great Britain and Germany .
