The park was founded in 1968 with no connection to an industrial tradition or proximity to a regional university. Founded in 1970 by the French Senator Pierre Laffitte, around 36,300 people are currently employed in around 2,230 companies on the 2,300-hectare site.

etymology

The first part of the name is derived from the Greek word Sophia ( Σοφία ), which can be translated as “wisdom” or “knowledge”. The second half is derived from the ancient name for Antibes at the time of settlement by Greek traders, Antipolis ( Αντίπολις ), which literally means “opposite city” and refers to the location opposite Nice.
