Kromlek was a pagan metal band from Schweinfurt founded in March 2004 , which disbanded in 2012.

history

When the new lead guitarist Nhévann and keyboardist Hrísdólgr ( old north. Unhold from the undergrowth ) joined the black metal band "Puritan Disbelief" from Draugh, Rico, Galt ( Swedish. Keiler ) and Mr. Alphavarg , the musicians decided to disband the band and re-found them as Kromlek .

At the beginning of 2005 the band's first major appearance took place at the Newcomer Festival in Schweinfurt. Since bassist Rico had left shortly before, they played there without a bassist. The festival was also a band competition, which Kromlek won. At the end of the year Kromlek signed a contract with Trollzorn Records and shortly afterwards released the EP Kveldriður . Guitarist Draugh left the band while they were still recording , but was soon replaced by Foradh .

In March 2007 the first studio album Strange Rumors… Distant Tremors was released. At this time the violinist Aoife (cf. Aoife ) also played with Kromlek, but she quit after a few concerts. T'Bog, who took over recording , mixing and mastering on both releases , became a permanent bass player in spring 2007. In the summer of 2008 singer Mr. Alphavarg left the band due to different artistic ideas. In April 2009, however, he returned. Due to his studies, drummer Christoph also left the band in May 2009; he was replaced by 17-year-old Julian.

In April 2011 the second studio album Finis Terrae was released . This is where even more languages are used, e.g. B. Arabic and Sanskrit. In December 2011, Mr. Alphavarg left the band for the second time. On March 29, 2012, the band finally announced their final breakup. The reasons given were different opinions within the band and the desire for other musical styles.

style

music

The music contains parts of Nordic folklore, Finnish humppa (similar to Finntroll ), but also more unusual musical styles such as Arabic melodies. Due to the epic aspect, Kromlek's style is sometimes referred to as "Epic Pagan / Viking Metal ". Since 2009 Kromlek call their style "Urban Pagan Metal".

Texts

The texts, which are written in German, English and Swedish, deal with Nordic mythology, philosophical topics and also humorous stories from the realm of the trolls. On the second album, the language spectrum was expanded, so there are also text passages in Arabic, Sanskrit, Latin, Old Norse and other languages. The content has also gone further: The album deals with the end of the world (lat. "Finis Terrae").

Occur

Kromlek's appearance and stage show have changed several times. At first they appeared in "Viking robes". The singer Mr. Alphavarg wore a helmet on some performances that almost completely covered his face. In autumn 2007 Kromlek wanted to distance themselves more from the usual Viking / Pagan Metal appearance. They wore suits on stage but had war paint on their faces. At the Ragnarök Festival 2007, Kromlek appeared uniformly in black with T-shirts on which an eagle holds the "Christ fish" between its claws. The appearance on stage changed again with the return of Mr. Alphavarg in April 2009. The members all wore black clothes, Mr. Alphavarg came on stage with a sickle hand and wore a torn T-shirt with a jera rune on the front and the words "Pagan Outlaw" on the back.

Band name

The name Kromlek is derived from the megalithic formations Cromlech or represents another spelling of the word. Singer Mr. Alphavarg justified the choice of this name in relation to Legacy Magazine as follows:

“For me and my paganist outlook on life and the world, of course, there is more to it than that, since those bulwarks of deep spirituality still harbor those ancient, cosmic energies. They are gates to the otherworld. "

- Mr. Alphavarg
