Hans-Peter Liebig

Hans-Peter Liebig (* 23. January 1945 in Neuruppin , Brandenburg ) is a German agronomist for horticulture , he was from 2002 to 2012 Rector of the University of Hohenheim .

biography

After studying at the State Horticultural Engineering Academy in Berlin-Dahlem from (1965–1968), he studied at the Technical University of Berlin, which he graduated in 1972 with a degree in agricultural engineering.

With his dissertation on the effects of endogenous and exogenous factors on the yield formation of cucumbers (Cucumis satuvus L.) , Hans-Peter Liebig received his doctorate in horticulture at the University of Hanover in 1978 , where he also completed his habilitation in 1989. After studying and researching at Wageningen University , he accepted the call to professor for vegetable growing at Hohenheim University in 1991. After several years as vice dean, dean and member of the Senate and University Council, he was elected Vice President in 2001. From October 1, 2002, Liebig was rector of the University of Hohenheim . On May 7th, 2008, the University Senate confirmed the previous election of the University Council for a second term of office of Rector Liebig. After the election by the responsible committee, Rector Liebig was also chairman of the Baden-Württemberg State Rectors' Conference from April 2009 to March 2010 . His term of office as rector ended on March 31, 2012, and the agricultural economist Stephan Dabbert was elected as his successor in the office of Hohenheim rector .

Liebig is married and has three sons.

Honors

Due to his many years of involvement in research projects in China, he was awarded the China Friendship Award of the PR China in 2004. In 2005 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca ( Cluj-Napoca , Romania). In the same year he was appointed honorary professor at the State Agricultural University in Stavropol (Russia) and the Chinese Agricultural University in Beijing (PR China). In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade .
