Stephan Dabbert

Stephan Dabbert (born June 23, 1958 in Braunschweig ) is a German agricultural economist . He has been Rector of the University of Hohenheim since April 2012 .

After completing an agricultural apprenticeship, Dabbert studied agricultural sciences at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics . In 1990 he obtained his doctorate from the University of Hohenheim. sc.agr. and completed his habilitation there in 1993 in the field of agricultural management .

From 1992 to 1994 he headed the Institute for Socioeconomics at the Center for Agricultural Landscape and Land Use Research (ZALF) in Müncheberg . Since 1994 he has been a professor at the Hohenheim Chair for Production Theory and Resource Economics in the agricultural sector. From 2000 to 2002 he was Dean of Faculty IV - Agricultural Sciences II - Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering and Animal Production at the University of Hohenheim. From 2002–2006 he was Dean of the merged Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Hohenheim. As an internal rector candidate, he prevailed with a large majority against 13 other applicants for the rector's successor to Hans-Peter Liebig .

The German University Association voted Dabbert Rector of the Year in 2016. He has been chairman of the Baden-Württemberg State Rectors' Conference since April 2020.
