Ecaterina Andronescu (born April 7, 1948 in Malovăț , Mehedinți district ) is a Romanian politician and member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, Partidul Social Democrat) of Romania.

Andronescu has been a member of the PSD since 1996, from 1996 to 2008 she had a seat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and has been a member of the Senate since 2008 . She was Romania's Minister of Education in the Năstase cabinet from 2000 to June 2003, in the Boc cabinet from 2008 to 2009 and in the Ponta cabinet in 2012.

Andronescu is married and has one child.

biography

Andronescu was born in Malovăț, Mehedinți County and graduated from Bucharest Polytechnic University in 1972 with an engineering degree in chemistry. In 1982 she received her PhD in the same field. From 1992 to 2004 she was dean of the faculty, in 2004 she became rector of the university and remained so until 2012.

Allegations of plagiarism

After Andronescu became Romania's Minister of Education for the third time, President Traian Băsescu demanded a declaration that her doctoral thesis was free from plagiarism against the background of various plagiarism affairs at the time, which also affected her direct predecessor Ioan Mang . Andronescu then stated that she had never plagiarized. On November 29, 2012, allegations of plagiarism were reported through the blog "integru.org" in relation to a scientific publication that had been written in 2003 by Aurelia Cristina Nechifor and Ecaterina Andronescu. Andronescu denied the allegations.
