The German Depression League (also spelled : Deutsche DepressionsLiga , DDL ) is a self-help organization for patients suffering from depression and their relatives.

history

The association was founded in 2009 as the first nationwide patient representation organized exclusively by those affected with the aim of educating people about depression, providing practical help for those affected and representing their interests. To this end, DDL conducts lobbying and press work.

Since 2011, the association, together with the German Depression Aid Foundation and the German Alliance against Depression, has organized the Depression Patient Congress in Leipzig every two years, which has so far been attended by between 1,000 and 1,500 people.

Positions

The association is committed to ensuring that patients suffering from depression should receive help as quickly as possible. The DDL therefore particularly criticizes the long waiting times when looking for treatment. Because of their illness, many sufferers are not able to undertake the lengthy search for a therapy place. Since January 2010, the association has been offering advice by e-mail and using databases to help them find information on the subject of depression.

organization

The non-profit registered association based in Kassel is financed by membership fees, donations and contributions from the statutory health insurances for project financing.

Torsten Sträter has been the patron since 2019 .
