The German High Pressure League eV DHL - German Society for Hypertension and Prevention is a non-profit recognized, scientific, medical specialist society and an organization for those affected. The association based in Heidelberg was founded in 1974. The association has around 6,000 members. The aim is to develop, implement and promote measures to combat high blood pressure in the population in Germany. The German Hypertension League is a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband and the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF). Ulrich Wenzel from Hamburg has been the company's CEO since 11/2019.

Objectives

In addition to the objective of advancing research to hypertension promote the DHL is especially true to ensuring the public about the threat to the people by hypertension educate .

Projects and activities

International Hypertension Day is on May 17th every year. Doctor-patient forums are organized nationwide for the population. Around 60 self-help groups support those affected locally. Two endowed professorships on high blood pressure in Berlin and Münster are dedicated to hypertension research. The "Young Hypertensiology Forum" offers young academics the opportunity for an interdisciplinary exchange in the subject of hypertensiology. The German Hypertension Academy organizes advanced training events for doctors with a focus on high blood pressure. Guidelines and therapy recommendations for doctors and patients are published. The association structures the care landscape by certifying hypertension centers DHL. The German Hypertension Foundation (DHS) is a legal foundation under civil law and secures the financial basis of the association.

financing

The association is financed by membership fees and around 25 supporting members, most of them companies in the German pharmaceutical industry . This repeatedly leads to the question of the scientific independence of society.
