Gregor Hagedorn (2019)

Gregor Hagedorn (* 1965 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German botanist and academic director at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin . Its botanical abbreviation is " hawthorn ".

Life

Gregor Hagedorn studied biology at the University of Tübingen and at Duke University in Durham in North Carolina . From 2000 to 2007 he was an external employee in the mycology department at the University of Bayreuth . In 2007 he completed his dissertation on "Structuring Descriptive Data of Organisms - Requirement Analysis and Information Models" at the University of Bayreuth.

From 1992 to 2013 he worked at the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry , today the Julius Kühn Institute . He played a major role in the development of a data standard for describing gender within the Taxonomic Databases Working Group.

Hagedorn has worked at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin since 2013. Until 2016 he was Head of Digital World and Information Science . To this day he is Academic Director at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and coordinator for national and international research infrastructure.

Between 2014 and 2018, Hagedorn was a member of the Council for Information Infrastructures of the Joint Science Conference (GWK) as a representative of the scientific institutions .

Scientists for the Future

Hagedorn founded the grassroots movement Scientists for Future together with other scientists in March 2019 . He was inspired to found the German-speaking Scientists for Future from the initiative of Belgian scientists in January 2019. The Scientists For Future's first statement was drawn up in a group of 30 people. At the end of March, 26,800 scientists and academics from Germany, Austria and Switzerland had signed a statement supporting the Fridays for Future movement.

Honors

  • 2016: Badge of honor by the German Phytomedical Society for his commitment to the creation of a phytomedicine wiki for phytomedical terms and definitions.
