Helge Bruelheide

Helge Bruelheide (born January 12, 1962 in Bielefeld ) is a German biologist and professor of geobotany at the University of Halle .

Life

In 1981 he graduated from high school in Bielefeld-Sennestadt and then from 1982 to 1984 he did community service in the nursing home in Münster. He then studied biology and geography at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster until 1985 . From 1986 to 1989 he studied biology at the Georg August University in Göttingen . In 1989 he wrote his diploma thesis on "The vegetation of the limestone grasslands in the eastern and western Meißner foreland" and in 1989 received the prize for special student achievements from the Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Art. In 1995 he received his doctorate at the University of Göttingen on the subject of "The grassland communities of the Harz Mountains and their local conditions. With a contribution to the structure principle on the basis of statistically determined groups of species." From 2001 to 2003 Bruelheide was senior assistant (C2) in the Department of Ecology and Ecosystem Research and representative of the Professorship for Geobotany at the Institute for Geobotany and Botanical Garden at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . Since 2004 he has been Professor of Geobotany (C4).

Helge Bruelheide is co-editor of the magazines "Journal of Vegetation Science", "Tuexenia", "Hercynia" and "Journal of Plant Ecology" (formerly Acta Phytoecologica Sinica).

He is involved in the following research and third-party funded projects: since 2002 expert opinion for the Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, since 2002 in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, since 2005 in the European Science Foundation, since 2007 in Bosch Foundation, member of the Swiss National Fund since 2009 and elected specialist representative for the DFG Review Board 202 “Plant Sciences” for the subject “Plant Ecology and Ecosystem Research” since 2007.
