Bernd Hansjürgens

Bernd Hansjürgens (* 1961 in Olpe ) is a German economist . Since 1999 he has been professor of economics , in particular environmental economics, at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and at the same time head of the economics department at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig .

Live and act

From 1981 to 1986, Hansjürgens first studied sociology and then economics at the University of Marburg . In 1991 he received his doctorate on the subject of environmental taxes in the tax system . Between 1995 and 1997 he was a postdoctoral fellow from the German Research Foundation and completed his habilitation in 1998 on the subject of the principle of equivalence and state funding .

In 1999 there was a joint appointment as Professor of Environmental Economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and Head of the Economics Department of the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig . Since 2015 he has shared the management of the department with Erik Gawel . Since 2017 he has also been head of the UFZ's Environment and Society department . From 2004 to 2013 he was also the spokesman for the Terrestrial Environment research program of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers .

Hansjürgens' main research areas include a. Environmental Economics, New Institutional Economics and Public Finance . He dealt intensively with climate policy (in particular emissions trading ) and is involved in the TEEB project of the United Nations . a. as head of studies of Natural Capital Germany - TEEB DE . He is a member of numerous committees; u. a. he is the chairman of the soil protection commission of the German Federal Environment Agency and a member of the Leibniz Association's Senate Evaluation Committee .
