Jürgen Papies (born April 22, 1944 in Wuppertal ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Jürgen Papies came to Wuppertaler SV in 1962 for which he played five games in the Oberliga West . He made his debut in the WSV league team on December 9, 1962 in the 0: 1 defeat at Schwarz-Weiß Essen on the side of Günther Glomb and Erich Haase . That season he also scored his first and only goal in the major league. He played with Wuppertaler SV until 1967 in the Regionalliga West , where he scored 20 goals in 71 games. Then he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf , which had just been relegated from the Bundesliga. In his first season in 1967/68 Papies was Fortuna's most successful goalscorer with 14 goals this season, tied with Waldemar Gerhardt . In the following regional league season he even scored 19 goals in 23 games, the club finished fourth in the western season. In his third year in Düsseldorf, the striker and the team failed to return to the House of Lords, followed by his move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 1970 . With Eintracht he played in the Bundesliga , stayed a year and played 25 games in which he scored three goals. Under coach Erich Ribbeck , Papies played in midfield alongside Bernd Hölzenbein and Jürgen Kalb . After one season in the Bundesliga, Papies moved on, he played the following season 1971/72 in the Regionalliga Südwest at Borussia Neunkirchen . The striker ended the outstanding season with 25 goals in 30 appearances, which enabled him to shoot Borussia to the championship and promotion to the Bundesliga. In the promotion round, Jürgen Papies was the top scorer with nine goals in eight games, but behind the superior competition from Wuppertal with striker Günter Pröpper it was only third in the table. The 1972/73 season started Papies wearing Borussia from Neunkirchen, but during the winter break he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he made twelve appearances and four goals in the Regionalliga West. After half a year he joined the regional league team FK Pirmasens and then VfB Remscheid .
