Kurt Kremer (physicist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Kremer (born June 17, 1956 in Kapellensüng ) is a German physicist .

Life

Kremer studied physics in Cologne from 1974 to 1980 , where he also received his doctorate in 1983 under Kurt Binder . From 1982 to 1984 he worked as a research assistant at KFA Jülich , which was followed by a postdoctoral position at Exxon Research and Engineering Co., Annandale NJ. After his habilitation in 1988 at the University of Mainz , he went back to Jülich until 1995 . After various research stays (including at the University of Minnesota and UC Santa Barbara ), Kremer became director and scientific member of the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz in 1995 (1998–2000 and 2008–2010).

His research deals with theoretical physics and physical chemistry of biological and synthetic macromolecular materials in particular, the development and application of (multiscale) computer simulation methods, as well as process-structure-property relationships, morphology and dynamics of polymers, polyelectrolytes, gels, membranes, liquid crystals and Peptides and polymers for electronic applications. He is (co-) author of over 260 scientific publications.

Memberships and honors

Kurt Kremer is an elected member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina , Halle (2012), Fellow of the American Physical Society (2006) and Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota (1991). He received the Walter Schottky Prize of the German Physical Society (1992), the American Physical Society Polymer Physics Prize (2011), and an ERC Advanced Grant (2014). He has been a member of the Council for Information Infrastructures since November 2018 .
