Wolfgang Marquardt
Wolfgang Marquardt (born April 21, 1956 in Böblingen ) is Professor of Process Technology at RWTH Aachen University ; from 2011 to mid-2014 he was chairman of the German Science Council . He has headed Forschungszentrum Jülich as Scientific Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2014 .
Life
Wolfgang Marquardt studied process engineering at the University of Stuttgart from 1976 to 1982 and then worked until 1992 as a research assistant and then as a research assistant (C1) at the Institute for System Dynamics and Control Engineering there. He completed his dissertation on nonlinear wave propagation in material separation processes in 1988. She was awarded the Friends of the University of Stuttgart Prize. After a research stay as a post-doc at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison from 1989 to 1990, he completed his habilitation in 1992 in the field of process dynamics and process management at the University of Stuttgart.
In 1992, Wolfgang Marquardt took up a professorship in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He built up the newly founded chair for process engineering, which later became part of the Aachen process engineering group. In 1999 Wolfgang Marquardt returned to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a visiting professor as part of the “Olaf A. Hougen Professorship” program. In 2004 he was a visiting professor at the Technical University of Delft . In 2001 he was awarded the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation.
From 2004 to 2010, Wolfgang Marquardt was a member of the Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and since 2010 a member of the German Science Council . At the beginning of 2011, Marquardt was elected chairman of the Science Council and re-elected in 2012 and 2013.
Marquardt has been CEO of Forschungszentrum Jülich since July 1, 2014 , replacing Achim Bachem .
