Walter Schottky Prize
The Walter Schottky Prize of the German Physical Society honors outstanding research work on solid state physics.
The prize has been awarded annually since 1973. The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros (as of 2013), is supported by Siemens AG and Infineon Technologies and is the most important German prize for solid-state physics.
Walter Schottky (1886–1976) was a pioneer in electronics. He was a professor of theoretical physics, but above all gave important impulses to experimental physics. In the early years of electronics, Schottky made a decisive contribution to the development of tube technology. But he also left his mark on the following semiconductor electronics, which is reflected in the relevant textbooks in terms such as Schottky diodes , Schottky flaws and Schottky barriers .
