Clemens Bechinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clemens Bechinger is a German physicist and university professor. He is a professor for experimental physics at the University of Konstanz .

Life

Bechinger studied physics at the University of Heidelberg , graduating in 1990. He then moved to the University of Konstanz , where he received his doctorate in 1993 and completed his habilitation in 1999. From 2003 to 2017 he was professor and head of the 2nd Physics Institute at the University of Stuttgart , and since then he has been a professor at the University of Konstanz.

In 2000, Bechinger was awarded the Walter Schottky Prize of the German Physical Society . In 2016 he received an ERC Advanced Grant from the European Research Council .

research

The research activities of Bechinger and his group concern the physics of soft matter . The systems examined include colloids , active particles (micro-swimmers) and quasicrystals . Optical examination methods are primarily used, including interference patterns, optical tweezers and total internal reflection microscopy.
