Volker Dohm (born July 12, 1943 in Düsseldorf ) is professor emeritus for theoretical physics at RWTH Aachen University .

Life

Volker Dohm received his doctorate from RWTH Aachen University in 1972 and, after postdoctoral stays a. a. at the University of Maryland , at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart and at the Research Center Jülich , appointed to the professorship at RWTH Aachen University.

His main research areas are the theory of phase transitions , especially renormalization group theory , and laser physics. His theoretical descriptions of critical phenomena in superfluid helium have been checked quantitatively and positively , especially in NASA space experiments under microgravity conditions.

Awards

For his excellent scientific work he received a. a. 1982, together with Reinhard Folk from Johannes Kepler University Linz , the Walter Schottky Prize of the German Physical Society (DPG) .
