history

Kapellensüng was mentioned for the first time in 1413 as sune .

The parish church of St. Agatha initially existed as a private chapel and was mentioned as early as 1662 - a mass was said “in the Hoddergaßen”. This chapel has been expanded and renewed several times.

The cemetery cross in Kapellensüng was erected in 1801, the inscription: “Erri (ch) tet 1801 by the couple Busch zum Ohl. Given to the Süng Chapel ”.

On the map Topographical Survey of the Rhineland from 1825, five scattered and delimited courtyards are named "Süng" . In the Prussian first recording from 1840 these are shown with the place names "Kapell Süng" , "Lüh Süng" and "Bonner Süng" .

In 1830 the "Topographical-Statistical Description of the Royal Prussian Rhine Province" noted: "Capellen-Süng with 1 chapel and 76 inhabitants".

On September 8, 1860, the parish was separated from Lindlar. The first pastor of Kapellensüng was Edmund Kaspar Ladislaus Gottlieb Teller (1860–1869). In 1874 the chapel was lengthened by 23 feet and a tower and sacristy were added.

The current church was built in 1913/14. The bells were delivered in 1917, and new bells were not purchased until 1927. On March 31, 1942, bells from Süng were again dismantled to melt down, the Christ the King, Agatha and Joseph bells.

In 1968 the old elementary schools were closed as part of a reform of the school system. The school districts Kapellensüng and Unterfeld were merged, from then on there was only one elementary school in Kapellensüng.
