Location and description

Kalkofen is located west of Lindlar on the border with the city of Overath .

history

Kalkofen was first mentioned in 1487 as "kalckoefen". In the Middle Ages, the lime kiln belonged to the Tüschen community in the parish of Hohkeppel.

In 1830 Kalkofen had 43 inhabitants.

In 1870, the school boards of the Hohkeppel and Schmitzhöhe schools presented the government with a plan to reorganize the school districts in order to put an end to the overcrowding of the schools. On the basis of this plan, a new school was built in Kalkofen from 1874–1876, which was inaugurated on September 13, 1877 and then moved into. The school was single-class until 1954, when a second classroom was built. In addition, the teacher's apartment at the school was renovated in 1953. In 1968 the elementary schools were closed.

Due to § 10 and § 14 of the Cologne Act , the municipality of Hohkeppel was dissolved in 1975 and extensive parts of Lindlar were incorporated. Including lime kiln.

In 1994 the Kalkofen school went into private ownership, was restored and converted into a residential building.
