In 1830 Steinscheid had 41 inhabitants. Most of them were small farmers or day laborers. A total of eight families lived in Steinscheid at that time, but only three of them could live exclusively from agriculture, the others had to use additional earnings as craftsmen or day laborers. In 1850 the entire property in Steinscheid was taken over by the Frangenberg estates in Lingenbach and by the Barons von Fürstenberg in Heiligenhoven. Two houses were demolished and the number of residents fell to 22. In 1906 the last farm was given up and the land was leased by Baron von Fürstenberg.
