history

The chapel of St. Lucia in the hermitage was mentioned as early as 1490 , but the original courtyard and chapel are probably much older, probably from the 14th century . In popular tradition it is said that the chapel was preached as early as 828 , and even Cologne's first bishop, Maternus (313-314), preached here. Both are unprovable. The chapel was auctioned off to the public in 1834 due to its disrepair. The buyer demolished part of the chapel, but had to undertake to leave the choir standing.

In 1830 57 people lived in Klause.

At the end of the 1970s, the Klause industrial area began to be developed .

Attractions

Chapel of St. Lucia in Hermitage
  • St. Lucia Chapel ; In 1996 Josef Gronewald wrote in his book Buildings and Streets in Lindlar that the chapel is a successor building to a place of worship that was built by the first settlers in Lindlar. This was consecrated to Lucia of Syracuse , who was venerated by the converted Franks . Then a larger church of St. Severinus was built at the same place . A new Lucia chapel was built some time later in the village of Klause. The chapel has a Way of the Cross, which shows the stations of the Passion of Christ . It can be proven for the years 1732–34. It starts today at the former Lindlar hospital:
  1. Prayer on the Mount of Olives, inscription: "Abba Father, if it is possible, take this bitter cup, but not mine, but your will".
  2. Flagellation: "Pilate released Barrabas for them, but Jesus had flagellated".
  3. Crowning of thorns: "They braided a crown of thorns, which they put on his head".
  4. Carrying the Cross. This station no longer exists today.
  5. Crucifixion. This station was renewed in 1937.
  6. Raising the cross: "Father forgive them because they do not know what they are doing".
  7. Last stop before the Klauser chapel; without inscription.
