The Neckar Stuttgart AG (NWS) is a formerly independent power company headquartered in Stuttgart ; a wholly owned subsidiary of EnBW since 2003 .

history

Neckarwerke Stuttgart AG emerged from the merger of Neckarwerke Elektrizitätsversorgungs AG (NW) in Esslingen am Neckar with the Technical Works of the City of Stuttgart AG (TWS) in Stuttgart on January 1, 1997.

The electricity division covered the city of Stuttgart and large parts of the central Neckar area. To secure the power supply, NWS was involved in the Obrigheim nuclear power plant (KWO) and the Neckar GmbH (GKN) community nuclear power plant , as well as in the Neckar GmbH (HKN) heating power plant and the Stuttgart GmbH heating power plant . In the Neckarwestheim and Obrigheim nuclear power plants , around 74% of the electricity demand of the NWS was generated, the rest of the demand in conventional power plants or thermal power plants . In the gas division, the natural gas was mainly obtained from Gasversorgung Süddeutschland (GVS) and distributed via its own pipelines. In addition, through its subsidiary Thermogas Gas- und Gerätevertriebs GmbH, NWS was active in the sale of liquefied gases including the planning and construction of consumption systems. In the district heating division , this was generated in Stuttgart in the Münster and Gaisburg power plants and in the heating power plants 1 and 2 in Altbach / Deizisau . The water business area comprised the water supply area of the city of Stuttgart. The NWS obtained the drinking water mainly from the two large special purpose associations Bodensee-Wasserversorgung (BWV) and Landeswasserversorgung (LW), in which the NWS was involved. Telecommunications in particular belonged to the services business area .

With the resolution of the general meeting of March 2002, NWS divided the operative business into the five subsidiaries NWS Regional AG & Co. KG , NWS Kraftwerke AG & Co. KG , NWS Energie-Vertriebs AG & Co. KG , NWS Service AG & Co. KG and NWS Customer Service AG & Co. KG .

On October 1st, 2003 Neckarwerke Stuttgart was taken over by Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW). The operating subsidiaries were merged with the respective parallel companies of EnBW. The previous NWS customers thus became EnBW customers and the NWS brand was merged into the corresponding EnBW brands and products. Since then, NWS has existed as a financial holding in the legal form of a GmbH.
