The small village of Kaiserau is part of the municipality of Lindlar , Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Kaiserau is located east of Lindlar on the border with the city of Gummersbach in the Leppetal. The Leppe flows through the village and takes in the Scheelbach coming from Eibach . To the north of the village rises the "Hoher Stein" with a height of 303 m. Neighboring towns are Würden, Kuhlbach , Felsenthal , Frielingsdorf and Oberleppe. The Kaiserau stop was on the Leppetalbahn , which has now been closed .

history

Until 1855 there were no or only very poor transport routes through the Leppetal. Nonetheless, the companies in Kaiserau and the rest of the Leppetal required an enormous transport performance every year. The road through the Leppetal, built in 1855, led to a further settlement of industrial companies.

The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province lists Kaiserau in 1871 with one house and six residents.

In 1897 a small railway between Engelskirchen and Marienheide was negotiated for the first time . This should also lead through Kaiserau. It was put into operation in the same year. In the Leppetal, due to the difficult geographical conditions, only one narrow-gauge railway could be built that could take tight curves. The quarry industry in Leppetal, among others, played a major role in the construction of the narrow-gauge railway and no longer wanted to bring its products to the state railway stations in Engelskirchen or Marienheide by horse-drawn carts. The Leppetalbahn was badly damaged in World War II , but operations were resumed in 1945. At the end of the 1940s, passenger traffic was completely stopped, as was all traffic on the Berghausen – Marienheide section. Mostly stones were transported on the remaining piece. In 1958 all operations were stopped and the tracks were removed.

economy

Kaiserau is one of three industrial area locations for Lindlar. The other two are Klause and Hommerich . Industrialization in Kaiserau began in the early 19th century .

Mainly the iron and steel industry, plastics industry and service providers are located in Kaiserau.

As an example, we would like to point out three companies with a long tradition:

Schmidt + Clemens in Kaiserau

Schmidt + Clemens Group

The company was founded in 1879 by Ludwig Schmidt and Wilhelm Clemens as a steel wholesaler in Frankfurt am Main . Soon afterwards, the company in Leppetal acquired one of the iron hammers that had been made in the early 19th century. The company's main plant was built on the site of these water-powered hammers.

Today the Schmidt + Clemens Group produces stainless steel system components from molded and centrifugal casting. The subsidiary S + C Märker, also at the Kaiserau location, deals with the refinement of forged components made of stainless steel (heat treatment, mechanical processing). S + C Extrusion Tooling Solutions has specialized in the manufacture of tools for the extrusion industry and operates a relining center at the Lindlar location. The British subsidiary Bowers & Jones has a sales office at the Group's headquarters.

Gebr. Höver & Co, Edelstahlwerke

The company was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by the brothers Karl and Christoph Höver, both from a family with a long tradition in Leppetal. First, a factory site with three water hammers was purchased and four modern steam hammers and later air hammers were installed. On September 1, 2003, the plant was taken over by Kind & Co. Edelstahlwerk, Wiehl-Bielstein.

From 2008, the entire production was relocated to the main factory in Wiehl / Bielstein in the newly built production halls.

The premises in Kaiserau were sold and handed over to the new owner on January 1, 2010.

Rolf Kind GmbH

The premises of the Kind & Co. Edelstahlwerk were taken over by Rolf Kind GmbH from Gummersbach. The new owners are not related to the previous owner. Rolf Kind GmbH was originally founded in Engelskirchen-Hollenberg in 1969. After another move in Engelskirchen, it then moved to Gummersbach an der Nochener Straße. The cramped conditions later forced the company to move to Lindlar. After it was founded as a contractor for Schmidt + Clemens, among others, the company developed into a company that produces forgings in high-alloy stainless steels and other corrosion-resistant materials. A new production hall was put into operation in 2017 with a 65-ton crane. The administration, which is still located on Nochener Straße, is to move to Kaiserau soon after the construction of a corresponding building. Today the sons of the company founder are responsible for the company's fortunes.
