The village of Vellingen is a district of the municipality of Lindlar in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Vellingen is located southwest of Lindlar at the intersection of the L299 and L84 on the Lennefer Bach . Neighboring places are Kepplermühle , Wurtscheid , Unterbergscheid and Hohkeppel .

history

Vellingen was mentioned in a document as early as 958. In the document, the brothers Waldfrid and Humfrid transferred their property in and around Hohkeppel to the St. Servinstift in Cologne. The Vellingen estate was part of the donation as a feudal estate. It was called velegen , the name is derived from "vele", the swamp forest.

In the 14th century there were disputes between Lindlar and Hohkeppel over the tithe. The consequence of this dispute was that around 1400 Hohkeppel was legally separated from the Lindlar parish. The new parish Hohkeppel comprised the honors Tüschen and Vellingen. The villages of Kartenlennefe, Müllerslennefe, Leienhöhe, Köttingen, Steg, zur Mühle, Vellingen, Viersiefen, Reybach, Frielinghausen, Westen, Hohkeppel, Griessiefen, Burg, Hove, Krähsiefen, Klingerath, Buchen and Busch belong to the Honschaft Vellingen in the parish of Hohkeppel.

In the Middle Ages, the Hof zu Vellingen was subordinate to the rent master von Georghausen .

A flour mill stood in Vellingen for several centuries, and an iron hammer was built in the 18th century.

In 1830 the “Topographical-Statistical Description of the Royal Prussian Rhine Province” noted: “Halfens-Vellingen with 1 mill and 15 inhabitants”.

Due to § 10 and § 14 of the Cologne Act , the municipality of Hohkeppel was dissolved in 1975 and extensive parts of Lindlar were incorporated. Including Vellingen.
