Aok is a brand for face care products with a “natural” image. It belongs to the Henkel Group and is sold in Germany and Austria .

The company name (company) is an acronym for Anhalt (the family name of the company founder ) and Ostseebad Kolberg , the place where the company was founded, and is pronounced as one word.

history

From 1885, the pharmacist Wilhelm Anhalt manufactured body care products in the Baltic resort of Kolberg (now Kołobrzeg in Poland ) and sold them primarily to spa guests and holidaymakers. One of the first products was the sea sand almond bran , which is still part of the range today; other products were almond bran powder and almond bran soap.

The Aok brand was registered in 1903, making it one of the oldest brands in the world. In 1913 the Bavarian chamber singer, actress and singing teacher Hermine Bosetti was hired as the “face” ( testimonial ) of the brand.

The company founder died in 1940. After the company had to cede its company premises to the Wehrmacht in the Second World War , which was then destroyed and Pomerania finally fell to Poland , a new company headquarters and production facility were built in Bad Münster am Stein in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1949 .

In 1973 the company was bought by the pharmaceutical company Squibb von Heyden , part of the Squibb Corporation , and the company's headquarters were relocated to Munich . As a result, Aok diversified its product portfolio, for example products tailored to skin types or for different age groups ( teenagers , 30+) were introduced.

In 1983 Aok was bought by the Düsseldorf-based Henkel group .
