Ebertbad (2009)

The Ebertbad was built in 1894/95 according to plans by the city architect Albert Regelmann as the first public bathing establishment in Oberhausen under the name of Badeanstalt am Neumarkt . It has been used as an event venue since the late 1980s.

History as an indoor pool

In 1894/95 the bathing establishment on Neumarkt was opened as a public bathing establishment . At that time, most apartments did not have their own bathrooms. Initially only used for hygienic purposes, sports clubs soon also used the bathroom. After the square and the street were renamed after Friedrich Ebert in 1947 , the bathing establishment was appropriately named Stadtbad am Ebertplatz , later called Ebertbad .

In the 1970s the Ebertbad was closed as an indoor swimming pool, and in 1986 the building was listed as a historical monument.

Event house

At the end of the 1980s it was rebuilt by the architect Werner Ruhnau and opened in 1989. At first a sponsoring association ran the house as a space for events of all kinds. In 1999 the house was rented in full by Hajo Sommers and Susanne Fünderich and run as a cabaret and cabaret stage. The Missfits performed there regularly until their separation in 2005, Gerburg Jahnke continued with her programs. The Ebertbad was one of the five venues on the competition tour of the Tegtmeier heirs from 2003 to 2013. Sommers has been running the house alone since 2013. In 2017, 287 events were held with 140,000 visitors.

Trivia

The events in the Ebertbad also include theater performances. The large theater in Oberhausen is not far from the Ebertbad. It is located in the immediate vicinity on Ebertplatz.
