Bochum-Weitmar water tower
The Bochum-Weitmar water tower is a flood tank at Hattinger Straße 467 in Bochum-Weitmar .
history
The Peaceful Neighbor Colliery in Linden planned a small waterworks for its operation, but then became a customer of the then newly founded Association of Waterworks in Bochum. In 1902/1903 it built the elevated water tank in Weitmar and another, now demolished, in Harpen. The Weitmar storage facility was used until the end of the 1950s to equalize the volume and pressure in the pipeline network.
The construction method was developed by the Bochum company Heinrich Scheven , in Germany there are only a few examples of this type. The facade is reminiscent of a stately Wilhelminian-style villa, the floor with the water tanks was covered with normal living room windows. The four-storey building contained two residential, workshop and office floors in the lower area and above it two steel water tanks, each with a volume of 1000 cubic meters.
In the mid-1970s, the city of Bochum took over the warehouse and began renovating it in 1983. It has been a listed building since April 17, 1989 due to its special architectural value. March 2014 the inclusion in the route of industrial culture , first in the Bochum themed route and later also in the water themed route . The section with the water tanks can also be visited on the day of the open monument .
The building is the seat of the German Forum for Puppet Theater and Puppetry .
