The Evangelical Christ Church is a listed church building in Gerthe , a district of Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia .

architecture

The north-facing basilica with low aisles and a floor-to-ceiling gallery above the east aisle was built between 1909 and 1910 based on a design by the architect Karl Siebold . The choir is just closing, the tower faces south. The church was badly damaged in World War II and restored in 1946/1947. The simplistic interior design dates from 1955.

The outer walls are made of rough sandstone with ashlar elements. The walls are divided partly by angular and partly by arched windows. In the facade there is a large fan window and a relief that shows Christ as the judge of the world . The high tower is crowned with a double curved hood . The extensions are designed in different forms.

In the nave a flat is barrel vault fed, it is separated from the aisles permeated columns. A confirmation hall is partitioned off under the south pore . The original painting on the choir arch and on the west side was renewed in 2006/2007 according to the findings. On the altar wall, the central pillars of the original blind arch were made visible again. Most of the furnishings from the time the church was built have been preserved. The two aedicules with baptismal font and ambo were made based on early medieval designs.
