The Central Cemetery Bochum (also: Friedhof Freilrafendamm ) is the largest cemetery in Bochum . It is located on Freilrafendamm in the Altenbochum district . The buildings, entrance area, administration, mourning hall and crematorium in the cemetery were built in the period from 1935 to 1939 in the style of a National Socialist building concept. The first funeral took place in April 1935.

Most of the victims of the bombing raids on Bochum city center during World War II and around 300 German soldiers are buried in the cemetery. In a special area there are also the graves of 1720 forced laborers in Bochum . On March 23, 1947, the urns of eight resistance fighters murdered in concentration camps and in the Nazi execution site in Brandenburg-Görden were buried in an honorary round square. After many years of commitment by relatives and surviving anti-fascists, a memorial stone was inaugurated in 2008 on the honorary round place.

Since March 2014 the cemetery has been listed in the Route of Industrial Culture , themed route Bochum .
