The Aquarius Water Museum in Styrum , a district of Mülheim an der Ruhr , is located in a disused water tower and is part of the Route of Industrial Culture .

August Thyssen had the 50 meter high tower built in 1892/93 to supply his nearby tube and rolling mills and the municipality of Styrum. In 1912 the building was sold to the newly founded Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerkgesellschaft (RWW), which is still the operator of the museum today. The 1982 decommissioned and since May 26, 1989 under monument protection standing tower was under the State Garden Show " MüGa " by the year 1992 renovated and turned into a museum.

The award-winning exhibition offers a multimedia experience on 14 levels and 30 stations about the origin, cycle and manifestations of water . Numerous computer simulations, films and games can be accessed with a chip card. Ecologically sensitive things like virtual water are also discussed.

A special attraction is the ride in the two glass elevators, one of which goes through the water tank that used to hold 500,000 liters. Above you can see the Ruhr Valley and the surrounding cities from a tour around 40 meters above the ground.
