The Villa Josef Thyssen is a residential building with a representative character on the right bank of the Ruhr in the immediate vicinity of the city center of Mülheim an der Ruhr . The house was built in the neo-baroque style of historicism on the site of the insolvent textile factory of Johann Caspar Troost in 1898–1900 based on a design by the Berlin architects Heinrich Kayser and Karl von Großheim for Joseph Thyssen , the younger brother of August Thyssen .

The building has been a listed building since September 18, 1984 , is one of the most important structures in the city and on the Route of Industrial Culture .

From 1984 to July 2004 the villa was the headquarters of the Center for Innovation and Technology. Since the company was relocated to Urge , the building was empty until 2008. The surrounding garden is diagonally opposite the water station and is open to the public. With its old trees and the “Thyssen pond” (the former reservoir of the canal from the Troost textile factory to the Ruhr), it is one of the most beautiful parks in the city.
