Joseph Thyssen

Joseph Thyssen , also: Josef Thyssen (born February 14, 1844 in Eschweiler ; † July 15, 1915 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ), was a German industrialist from the Thyssen family .

Life

Joseph Thyssen was August Thyssen's younger brother and his closest collaborator and confidante throughout his life.

After working in the banking business of his father Friedrich Thyssen , Thyssen had been a co-owner of August Thyssens Styrumer Walzwerk Thyssen & Cie since 1877 . and in this function in various supervisory and administrative bodies of the Thyssen Group . Among other things, in 1898 he was the founding board member of the Mülheim Mining Association . In 1900 he and his family moved into the newly built Villa Josef Thyssen on the banks of the Ruhr .

In 1880 he married Klara Bagel (1856–1918), a publisher's daughter from Mülheim. The marriage had three children: Julius (1881–1946), Johanna (1883–1887) and Hans (1890–1943).

In 1915 Joseph Thyssen died of an accident at work in the Mülheim plant when he got caught between the buffers of two rail cars during an evening inspection. He was buried in the old cemetery ( old town cemetery ) in Mülheim an der Ruhr ( → location of the tomb ).
