Tegtmeiers Erben is a "nationwide competition for stage originals" organized by the city of Herne since 1997 . It takes place annually, alternating with the keyword satirical award . The competition is named after the Ruhr area petty bourgeois Adolf Tegtmeier , the most famous figure of the actor and cabaret artist Jürgen von Manger, who died in 1994 .

procedure

The aim is to find an aspiring word artist who is in the tradition of the popular actor Jürgen von Manger in terms of his style, originality and stage presence. The winner (s) will receive a Hamburg Elbe sailor , a cap, like Adolf Tegtmeier's unmistakable headgear, as a prize symbol . Audience and jury award winners receive the original in fabric, the winners of the undoped honorary awards a bronze cast weighing around 8 kg. The organizer is the city of Herne together with the Herne cultural initiative and the Herne municipal utilities. Jürgen von Manger's widow Ruth has taken over the permanent sponsorship of Tegtmeier's heirs .

Until 2001 the competition was advertised throughout the Ruhr area. In the public preliminary rounds, a jury nominated six finalists for the competition. Since 2005, the competitors have been nominated by a selection committee; candidates are kept on the lookout nationwide.

The tour preceding the final from 2001 to 2013 took the competitors to the Ebertbad (until 2003: Zentrum Altenberg in Oberhausen), the Carl colliery in Essen, the Fritz-Henßler-Haus in Dortmund, the Langendreer train station in Bochum and the roundhouse in Mülheim on the Ruhr. The tour was finally abolished due to excessive coordination effort.

The final and the award ceremony took place in the Flottmann halls in Herne until 2009 . From 2011 the cultural center in Herne became the venue for the finals and the award ceremony.

Up to four prizes will be awarded. The endowed jury award and the audience award (since 2001) as well as two undoped honorary awards: Tegtmeier's heirs is regularly awarded to an outstanding artist. The Jürgen von Manger Prize for a Lifetime Achievement, on the other hand, is awarded at irregular intervals. Besides the cap, both the jury and the audience award are endowed with 4,000 euros each (until 2001: jury award 10,000 marks, audience award 5,000 marks).

The competition was moderated by Jürgen Uter (1997), Lioba Albus (1999), Jochen Malmsheimer (2001–2005), and Heinz Gröning (2007). The 2009 tour venues were moderated by Helmut Sanftenschneider , the 2009 final was moderated by Horst Schroth , the previous year's honorary winner , and Fritz Pleitgen gave the laudation for the 2009 honorary winner . The moderation in 2011 and 2013 both at the tour venues and at the finale in the cultural center in Herne was again taken over by Helmut Sanftenschneider, as was the moderation in 2015 and 2017.

The closing event has always been broadcast on WDR radio in recent years.
