Horst Schroth (born July 29, 1948 in Münchberg ) is a German cabaret artist , author and actor .

Life

Schroth first completed a degree in business administration , later he also studied history and social sciences. During his studies he already worked as an assistant director at the theater and later as an actor.

In the mid-1970s, he and Michael Batz founded the independent theater group “Theater between Door and Angel” in Hamburg . Numerous productions in the field of street theater and children's theater followed.

From the mid-1980s Schroth turned to cabaret. Initially together with Achim Konejung and Michael Batz, programs such as Die Volkszählungsrevue (1983 and again in 1987) and Sex Total (also 1987) were created. From 1989 the duo Schroth and Konejung worked together. In 1989 the production Gnadenlos deutsch premiered and from the beginning was considered to be one of the most precise political-satirical inventories on the subject of German reunification .

For this, the duo received the renowned “ German Cabaret Prize ” in 1990 . In 1999 Schroth received the "German Cabaret Prize" again, this time for his solo programs. He is one of the few cabaret artists who have received this award twice in the course of their career. Other important prizes: 1999 Star of the Year from the Münchner Abendzeitung and the Leipziger Löwenzahn . In 2007 he was awarded the "Tegtmeier Prize" in Herne .

In the 1990s, the productions Alles meins! and the legendary cabaret projects Reichspolterabend (1990, 1992 and 1994) with the cabaret artists Heinrich Pachl , Arnulf Rating , Matthias Beltz and Achim Konejung .

In 1994 Schroth presented his first solo program Zero Defects - Mr. Laux no longer understands the world , followed by Scharf auf Harakiri (1996), Gentlemen's Evening (1998), Hangover Breakfast (2002), Only Size Counts (2005), When Women Ask - The Best from 10 years (2008) and green with envy (2008). The program What is gone is gone followed in August 2011 . His current program is entitled Zero Defects - Teacher Laux. The comeback , which premiered on February 14, 2014 in Hamburg's St. Pauli Theater . Since 2008, he has been on tour with Wenn Women Ask , parallel to the current program. "When women ask" was published in 2013 as a book. In 2017 the follow-up program "When women keep asking" premiered. Ulrich Waller directed all solo programs . From autumn 2019 to June 2020, Schroth's new program entitled "Endekurve" has been running, with which he says goodbye to his audience who do not live in northern Germany.

Parallel to his stage work, Schroth worked for radio and television and is often a guest in cabaret shows such as windshield wipers or midnight peaks . In 2004 and 2005 Schroth played the leading role of Paul Wagner in the ZDF family series Halt, Paul and also in the continuation of the series under the title Papa ist der Boss .

Schroth lives on the green outskirts of Hamburg , together with his wife and two dogs.
