René Sydow (born April 10, 1980 in Radolfzell am Bodensee ) is a German writer, cabaret artist , actor and director .

life and work

Sydow grew up on the Höri peninsula on Lake Constance . From 1996 he played and staged for independent theater groups in the district of Konstanz . It followed u. a. two solo cabaret programs and the chanson evening A musical adventure with songs by Berlin chansonnier Klaus Hoffmann . After graduating from the Ambrosius-Blarer-Gymnasium in Gaienhofen , Sydow first worked as an actor, assistant director and dramaturge at the Stuttgart State Theater and at the Studio Theater Stuttgart. From 2001 to 2005 he studied at the Advertising and Media Academy Marquardt WAM in Dortmund . During this time he played in over a dozen short films and won awards at international festivals for his first directorial work, including Lavinia Wilson and Kampfausfall . The artistic collaboration with the author and director Daniel Hedfeld also began in 2001 .

In 2005, Sydow completed his studies with a degree in film and television. His graduation film Unter Wölfen was the Academy's first full-length feature film and marked the debut for the writer and director duo Hedfeld / Sydow in the professional film business. The films Lamento and The Secret Room continued to emerge from the collaboration with Daniel Hedfeld . Lamento has received critical acclaim and has been nominated for young talent awards at film festivals.

As an actor, Sydow can be seen both in the theater and on television. He can be seen in tabloids and comedy, as well as in character roles. In addition, he teaches at private film academies in the subjects of film history , acting / directing and literary creative writing and gives guest lectures at universities.

As a writer and cabaret artist, René Sydow has been on various slam poetry stages in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2012 . In November 2012 he took third place at the German-speaking championships in Mannheim / Heidelberg. In 2013 he was runner- up in the NRW Slam in Essen and in 2018 in Lüdenscheid, he was the NRW Slam State Champion. In autumn 2012 his first novel Der Reiher was published , in September 2013 his text collection Deutsche Wortarbeit , in which, in addition to poetry and prose, he also published cabaret texts for the first time, relating to his multi-award-winning solo program Thoughts! Come on! led. This was followed by the equally award-winning program Warning on the Mouth! and the wise man's burden .

Rene Sydow has been married to the musician Fee Badenius since the end of 2014 .
