up-and-coming
The up-and-coming film festival in Hanover is a competition for schoolchildren, students and young people up to the age of 27 and takes place every two years. The film festival has existed nationwide since 1982 and internationally since 1991 as an up-and-coming Int. Film Festival Hannover. All selected films will be presented at the festival in individual program blocks in which presenters present each film and the filmmakers involved. The members of the national and international jury are newly selected for each festival and, together with the audience, see all films for the first time. The jury does not decide on the winners until the end of the festival.

Burkhard Inhülsen is the founder of the film festival . Together with Karin Inhülsen he is director of the film festival, the co-director and artistic director Harald Inhülsen died in 2017. The first event ran in January 1982 under the name “first nationwide school film festival ”. The submission of over 500 films from all parts of Germany in the then popular Super8 format exceeded all expectations. From 1983 the festival became a biennial , i. H. the festival has been held every two years since then. For the 10th up-and-coming festival 2009 there were 2950 film submissions from 60 countries; 106 films from 34 countries were selected for the international competition program and 105 films for the national competition program. In 2012 the Friends of Hanover awarded Burkhard Inhülsen the city culture prize for organizing the festival.
Prices
Various prizes are awarded at the up-and-coming film festival, such as the German Young Talent Award since 2005 . The prize is awarded to three young filmmakers whose film work meets the criteria of “imaginative, unusual, humorous, provocative and idiosyncratic”. The award is linked to a statue (Filmkomet), prize money and, since 2007, a two-year producer sponsorship. Each award winner has the opportunity to realize a new film idea with the support of a sponsor from the film industry. The award sponsor is the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The godparents for the winners of the "German Young Talent Award 2007" were Regina Ziegler (Ziegler Film), Volker Engel (uncharted territory), Peter Rommel (Peter Rommel Filmproduktion). Christian Becker (Rat Pack Filmproduktion), Hans W. Geißendörfer (Geißendörfer Film- und Fernsehproduktion) and Bettina Brokemper ( Heimatfilm ) have been sponsored since November 2009 .
