Florian Schnell (* 1984 in Lörrach ) is a German director and screenwriter whose work is characterized by a mixture of real and animated films .

Live and act

He quickly got in touch with filming for the first time during project days at the Hebel-Gymnasium in Lörrach , and after graduating from high school, he first studied scenic arts at the University of Hildesheim . In 2008 he moved to the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg, where he began studying directing. While still a student, he made a number of short films, some of which were award-winning, such as Hybrids and Mia and the Minotaur . Schnell's work is characterized by the fact that he realizes the films as a mixture between real and animated films . Schnell finished his studies in 2014 with the graduation film Offline - Life is not a bonus level , the film premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival in 2016 and was released in German cinemas in February 2017.

In 2015 Schnell accompanied the journalist Elias Bierdel on a trip to southern Europe and portrayed the drama of the refugee crisis on film in In the Shadow of Europe .
