The sparkling wine house Bouvet Ladubay is based in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent in the Loire Valley near Saumur in France. Among other things, Crémant de Loire are produced there.

history

Bouvet Ladubay was founded in 1851 by Etienne Bouvet, who was married to Miss Ladubay. After the wedding, he bought vaulted cellars that are now used to store the sparkling wines from Bouvet Ladubay. In addition to production buildings, Bouvet also built his own power plant, apartments and his own theater for the employees. Today the theater is used for events, concerts and theater performances. The art center “Bouvet Ladubay Art concept” exhibits works by contemporary artists.

At the turn of the century Bouvet Ladubay was one of the largest sparkling wine producers in the world, with an annual production of seven million bottles. The two sons-in-law followed in their parents' footsteps, but after they both died in World War I , the widows took over the management. In 1932, Justin Marcel Monmousseau, the grandfather of the current managing director, Patrice Monmousseau, took over the company. In 1974 the Taittinger champagne house became the owner of Bouvet-Ladubay, and in 2006 the Indian United Breweries Group acquired the sparkling wine house. Patrice Monmousseau led the house to its present size with great personal commitment, under changing owners. After more than 40 years, the Bouvet Ladubay has been in the hands of the Monmousseau family again since November 2015, under the general management of his daughter Juliette Monmousseau.

Bouvet Ladubay sells its wines in more than 45 countries worldwide. The company is the largest exporter of sparkling wines in the Loire in general.

Main grape varieties

The sparkling wines are produced using the bottle fermentation method in the factory built in 2007. The basis of almost all cuvées are Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes, Cabernet Franc for the rosés. Some of the sparkling wines are matured in barriques and stainless steel tanks in order to then mature in the bottle.
