Wilhelmshaven Knurrhahn
The Wilhelmshavener Knurrhahn is a cabaret prize of the city of Wilhelmshaven , which has been awarded annually to artists from the cabaret sector who have performed in the Pumpwerk cultural center since 1986 . The award is one of the most renowned cabaret awards in German-speaking countries. It is endowed with 2,500 euros and is a bronze sculpture of the name “ Knurrhahn ”, designed by the Wilhelmshaven artist Hartmut Wiesner . A jury from the pumping station chaired by Helmut Bär will decide on the award.
Self-image
The gurnard was chosen as the namesake and symbolic figure for the cabaret award. The bottom-dwelling sea fish, like the award-winning artists, “gets to the bottom of the things in life”, appears more unruly than pleasing, but is characterized by its fine taste, which only comes into its own when it is skillfully prepared.
